I Tried Emacs...

19 Sept 2026

...and I think I'm sticking with Vim. I do think Emacs is cool tho, but idk, it doesn't really fit my work flow's needs. Or rather, it overshoots my work flow's needs... by a lot. It's pretty neat that you can almost use it as weird operating system, it's got a lot built in, web browser, email, irc client... Even some games if you really like to procrastinate on your work :D You can also write your own functions in emacs lisp, and then set up keybinds to execute them, without even leaving emacs. I do recognize how insanely powerful this is, but again, I just don't think I do anything crazy enough to justify learning it all. It's like I'm trying to blow a candle out with a rocket launcher.

Vim's keybinds also feel more natural to me. Admittedly, this is proabably because I've been using Vim for a few years now, but I remember the learning process being much smoother than it was with Emacs. Having to hold down Ctrl just to simply move the cursor around seems to me like too much. I understand that it's because there's no normal mode/insert mode, but dude moving the cursor is something that you're going to be doing A LOT, my pinky finger is cramping up. I really wish you could just press N, P, F, B to move the cursor. The funny thing is, I could probably customize Emacs to actually behave that way, but at that point, why bother using Emacs when I could just use Vim which already behaves that way?

If you use Emacs, that's really cool. If you wanna send me your emacs config, that'd be really cool too! I'm going to keep trying Emacs probably once a day, since I don't want to throw it out before I've even used it for a whole month. I had to get used to Vim before I started using it regularly, but idk man, emacs feels weird. But like a good weird. But also I don't exactly like it... Look I am going to keep using it, but Vim is just so good man it's gonna be so hard to replace vim. Ah fuck it VIM FOREVER!!!

im kidding im still gonna try emacs

Small Fuckup

13 Sept 2026

Not sure how I did it, but the local git repo for this site got pretty messed up. There were dangling commits, I couldn't use git stash for some reason, yea idk. I backed up the files, wiped the fucked up repo, and made a new one. So far, everything's working fine. First time I've had a truly "WTF!?" moment with git. The only thing I can think of that might've done it is the object format being SHA-256, since that's the one thing I did differently from all my other git repos. I don't think that's the issue though, git has supported SHA-256 for a long time now, I think about 10 years?

Whatever, it's not a problem anymore. The repo is still up on Codeberg, check it out here! Since I did a total wipe, I lost all of the commit history.. but really who cares? Not me at least.

A Year Without Social Media

11 Sept 2026

It has officially been a whole year since I deleted my last social media account, which was on Bluesky.

It has definitely been a needed change. Even though I was never very active on social media, I was still reading the insane bullshit that is usually trending on those sites. Looking back, I'm surprised I didn't leave sooner. What did I even get out of being on social media? The only real use I had for social media was following creators and other people whose work I am interested in. While that is definitely harder to do without social media, it's not entirely possible. Did you know that RSS is still a thing?

Thankfully, I never let myself get too deep into all the crap that "people"[1] posted on social media, especially Twitter. I always knew what I believed in, and was never persuaded to think otherwise. Still, I think reading that stuff every day for years definitely did some damage to my mental health, especially in terms of my worldview. As a teenager, I always felt that the general public was so... hostile. I didn't talk much with my classmates while I was in school. I had friends, but those people had to break through my bubble, so to speak. I wouldn't go out much, as I had a lot of anxiety being around people I didn't know. I'm still dealing with these feelings today, but the last year has felt so much better in comparison to the decade before. I actually like going out on the weekends now!

It's bittersweet. I'm so happy and relieved that my anxiety is starting to go away, but I'm also devastated that my teenage years were spent hiding away. I'm still happy with my life, but I do wish that time machines were real. If I ever have kids, they are not using the internet freely until they're 18 years old. I still can't believe that some people give their kids unrestricted internet access before they're even out of diapers. If I feel that my brain was harmed by unrestricted internet use as a teenager, what's gonna happen to their brains? It's honestly terrifying to think about.

If you've been thinking about ditching social media, try it. Delete the apps off your phone, delete the bookmarks. It isn't that important, you'll live without it. Of course, you'll suddenly have a bunch of free time that used to be spent scolling on social media, so fill it with something new! I've been learning to cook lately, which has been really rewarding. Find something that you enjoy doing, and put some time into that rather than scrolling on social media, I promise it will be more fulfilling!

Open Source

6 Sept 2026

I've decided to make this website open source!

Obviously, you can just hit your 'F12' key to view the page source, but now that the code is hosted on Codeberg, you can see exactly what I've changed in each commit. You can even suggest changes, or offer your own if you really want to!

Recalculating...

3 Sept 2026

The site will have a pretty bare-bones style for a bit. Or maybe I'll keep the nude-ish website look, it's kinda charming :)

I'm rethinking what this site will be... I want it to be much more general, less focus on certain topics. I think that's why I stopped adding new blog entries after like, three. My brain bounces around interests too much for me to be focused on just a few things for too long. Except Diablo.

Actually, that's one of the problems I have. When I have free time, I spend most of it playing Diablo. I do think about updating my site here, but eh yaknow gotta do 1000 mephisto runs first.

Oh yeah the CSS. My last layout was okay, I was happy with it, but it became too much to maintain. I really like how flashy and decorated some people's sites are on Neocities, but for me, I like my site to just look clean and be super functional. It might be boring, but I'm boring, so I guess it makes sense. Eventually I'll make sure it looks good on both smaller screens and wide screens, and it'll probably stop there.

I also want to be way more sparing with images. I'm actually really surprised we get a whole gigabyte of storage on here for free. That's pretty generous in my opinion, especially when you consider that we're going through a memory crisis at the moment. Speaking of which, I bought my 1TB SSD right before the crisis hit. It was $100 when I bought it, and last I checked, it was $250. Best impulse buy of my life so far.

Sooooo yeah. Back to playing Diablo :D
